Many people think chemical toxins play a minute, if any, role in their physical health. There are many beliefs such as; too little to cause problems, the government wouldn't let that happen or chemicals are found in nature so it must be okay. Unfortunately, all of these beliefs are misunderstood.
How many chemical toxins are in your body? Well, according to the Centers for Disease Control, the average American carries around 116 chemicals in their bodies with 34 of those being pesticides. (PDF from Pesticide Action Network North America) According to a report by the President's Cancer Panel, children are born with chemicals in their bodies.
Why would the government let this happen? Because of laws that have not been updated. With more than 80,000 chemicals used in our environment, only around 200 have been tested. This is because of "Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976," which says that substances can only be tested for safety only after they have been proven to be a health risk. (Isn't this backwards thinking?) Because of this law, the Environmental Protection Agency is not able to effectively ban substances that can harm us.
While it is true there are chemicals found in nature, it is also true that your body relies on a vast network of chemical reactions to function properly. Unfortunately, the interference of outside or foreign chemicals can and does interfere with our bodies natural processes. Man-made chemicals are not the same as organic and they do seem to pose health risks ranging from ADHD to cancer along with a myriad of other health issues.
We cannot control what the EPA will do, what regulations (or de-regulations) the politicians will do today or tomorrow, but there is action that you can take to protect yourself from these harmful toxins.
Cleansing your body can help. It is not proven that a body cleanse or colon cleanse removes these chemical toxins, but at the same time many are assumed safe because the human body has organs and systems in place to deal with these toxins. It is also known that certain foods strengthen our bodies like foods that are high in Vitamin C help our immune systems. Other foods make us weaker, sluggish and fat, such as overloads of sugar and white flour products.
Because cleansing, colon cleansing and detoxification are processes that are natural to your body; it is safe to assume that we can strengthen these processes, as well. We can assist our bodies by doing as much as we can to reduce the risk of consuming toxins. We an also help our bodies cleanse with the right food choices and supplements that assist our organs and systems of detoxification. And there are a variety of choices in bodywork to help move these chemical toxins out, safely. Let knowledge be your ally and be proactive. You do have the power to take control of your health.
